A planned closure of Fairlee Road will be used as an opportunity to carry out a range of coordinated works in the wider area, with organisations working together to reduce overall disruption.
Island Roads has been working with partner organisations to align additional maintenance and infrastructure activity with the upcoming utility works.
Fairlee Road will be closed as a through route from Monday 20 April to Friday 1 May while new water and sewerage connection works are carried out.
A full closure is required due to excavation works reaching depths of up to six metres.
With traffic expected to be diverted via Staplers, Island Roads says it has been working to identify other planned schemes that can be completed during the same period.
The coordinated programme will include tree maintenance work by the Isle of Wight Council at Seaclose Park near Medina College, as well as ongoing discussions with Crownpark, the developer behind the new Newport Football Club at the Racecourse, to see if additional access and preparatory works can be undertaken during the closure.
Island Roads will also carry out any highway maintenance tasks that can be completed safely while the road is shut, with temporary traffic management used where necessary.
A spokesperson for Island Roads said the main works on Fairlee Road are not being delivered by the organisation, but the closure provides an opportunity to coordinate other activity during a period of reduced traffic.
They added that while disruption is unavoidable, the timing has been chosen to sit between the Easter holidays and the main summer season, in an effort to limit impact on road users.
The spokesperson also thanked the Isle of Wight Council and Crownpark for their cooperation in helping to align the various works.
