An emergency road closure has been put in place in Cowes town centre this afternoon (Monday) to allow urgent works to be carried out.
High Street has been closed from its junction with Terminus Road for approximately 26 metres in a northerly direction.
The closure came into force at 3:11pm on Monday 18 May and could remain in place for up to 5 days, although restrictions are expected to be lifted sooner if works are completed earlier.
A signed diversion route is in operation via High Street, Carvel Lane, Terminus Road, Union Road and Market Hill.
Island Roads, acting on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, says reasonable access will be maintained for nearby properties while the works are ongoing.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys through the area while the temporary closure remains in place.
