Police officers are preparing for a safe and well-managed derby between Portsmouth and Southampton this Sunday at Fratton Park.

Following a successful policing operation during the first leg in September, specialist teams are once again set to ensure fans can enjoy the football safely.

Officers are working closely with both clubs, supporters, and the local community to keep the focus on the game.

Chief Superintendent Simon Dodds, Gold Commander for the operation, said:

“We’re proud of our teams who helped keep everyone safe during the first match. It was a hugely successful operation with only a handful of arrests and no major disorder.
"We received positive feedback from fans and the local community, and we aim to replicate that success on Sunday.”

Fans may notice a higher level of visible policing, including officers in protective equipment, as well as less visible tactics designed to maintain safety.

Dedicated teams will also be supporting fan coaches arriving and departing from the ground, as part of the club’s coach-managed travel system.

C/Supt Dodds added:

“We have extensive experience policing these matches and adapt our plans for each fixture.
"Any disruptive behaviour will be dealt with swiftly, and consequences can include court appearances and Football Banning Orders.
"Public safety is our top priority, and we encourage fans to enjoy the day responsibly.”

Supporters are advised to check Portsmouth Football Club’s guidance for fans ahead of the game and plan journeys carefully, especially with Eastern Road still closed due to ongoing Southern Water repairs.
