Cowes Town Council has secured £15,000 in grant funding to boost the town’s resilience in the event of flooding.
The money has been awarded through the Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Powering Communities to Net Zero Fund.
The funding will be used to purchase essential flood-response equipment, including sack trucks, generators, brushes, buckets and cleaning materials.
A dedicated storage container will also be bought to house the equipment, with potential locations in the town currently being assessed.
Cowes Mayor, Councillor Stuart Ellis, said the grant provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen the town’s preparedness.
He said the council wants to ensure practical equipment can be deployed quickly to help the community respond effectively when it matters most, and thanked SSEN for its support.
Colin McMillan, Community Investment Manager at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, said the fund was created to help local areas prepare for the challenges posed by extreme weather.
He said SSEN was pleased to support Cowes Town Council in taking proactive steps to protect residents and assist recovery following any future flooding incidents.
