A man from Ryde has been jailed for more than three years after admitting a series of serious domestic abuse offences.

30-year-old Bogdan Mistreanu, of Monkton Street, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday 24th April.

He previously admitted charges including controlling or coercive behaviour, four counts of intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm against a 55-year-old woman, and assault by beating of a 28-year-old man.

The court heard the offences took place between December 2024 and December 2025, during which the victim was subjected to repeated abuse, including physical violence and controlling behaviour.

In a statement, she described living in a “state of constant fear”, saying she felt unable to leave her home and that the impact of the abuse will stay with her.

The abuse came to an end in December last year when she fled to a nearby pub for help following a serious assault. Mistreanu was arrested shortly afterwards.

Detective Constable Rory McKittrick, who led the investigation, said the victim had been subjected to a “terrifying ordeal” over a prolonged period.

He added that police hope the case encourages others experiencing similar abuse to come forward, stressing that controlling or coercive behaviour is a serious offence that will not be tolerated.

Anyone experiencing domestic abuse is urged to report it to police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
