The Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has moved to reassure residents following an increase in the UK’s terror threat level.

The level has been raised to “severe” after a stabbing incident in North London on Wednesday (April 29), meaning an attack is considered highly likely.

Donna Jones said the change is a precautionary step designed to help keep communities safe.

She said:

“I understand that any increase in the national threat level can feel worrying, and I want to reassure people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight that this decision has been taken as a precautionary measure.”

She added that public safety remains the top priority, and confirmed she is in regular contact with the Chief Constable.

Residents can expect to see increased police patrols, particularly around places of worship and other public areas, with a focus on both reassurance and prevention.

Donna Jones also offered support to those who may feel particularly affected by the announcement, including members of the Jewish community.

“You are valued, you are supported, and you are not alone,” she said.

People are being encouraged to remain vigilant but continue with their day-to-day lives.

Anyone with concerns is urged to speak to a police officer or contact support organisations.

Suspicious activity can be reported via the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 123, or online through the Action Counters Terrorism website.

In an emergency, always call 999.
