Four children were pulled to safety after getting into difficulty in the sea at Shanklin beach at the weekend.
Emergency services were alerted just before 11am on Saturday (August 15), with Solent Coastguard calling out rescue teams from Bembridge and Ventnor, while Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was also paged to launch.
Fortunately, quick-thinking members of the public managed to bring the youngsters back to shore before the lifeboat entered the water.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service attended with a crew, critical care paramedic and an operational commander to check over those involved.
A middle-aged man who entered the water to help with the rescue was also assessed, after being left wet and shaken by the ordeal.
The incident was subsequently stood down.
