Belgrave Road in Ventnor is due to reopen today (Friday) following several weeks of repair and safety work after a major rockfall earlier this year.

The work has been carried out by Island Roads on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, with specialist designers and contractors brought in to make the area safe and more resilient.

The project has included stabilising the cliff face by removing loose material and installing protective systems, clearing fallen rock debris, repairing retaining and parapet walls, and restoring the road surface.

Project Manager Nathaniel Saunders thanked local residents for their patience while the work was completed.

He said:

“We’d like to thank the Ventnor community for its patience during these works.
"It has been a complex project due to the confined nature of the site, the instability of the rockface at the start, and periods of severe weather.
“We are delighted to be able to reopen the road ahead of the Christmas period and it has been a pleasure to work with a number of excellent Isle of Wight companies to deliver a local solution.”

Belgrave Road will reopen in time for the festive period, restoring an important route for residents and visitors in the area.
