A weather warning remains in force for the Isle of Wight until 9pm tomorrow (Friday), with periods of rain and heavy showers expected to cause disruption in places.

Forecasters say the unsettled conditions could lead to minor surface water flooding, particularly on roads, which may result in longer journey times.

Bus and train services could also be affected, with delays possible throughout the day.

There is a small risk of brief interruptions to power supplies and other services, while flooding of a small number of homes and businesses cannot be ruled out.

Rain is expected to move northwards during Thursday morning, becoming heavy at times.

Although a short drier and brighter spell is possible, this is likely to be brief, with heavy and slow-moving showers developing during the afternoon.

These are expected to merge into longer spells of rain through the evening, overnight and into much of Friday.

Across the warning period, many areas could see 20 to 30mm of rainfall, with higher ground potentially receiving more than 50mm.

With the ground already saturated, surface water flooding and difficult driving conditions are increasingly likely due to spray, standing water and flooded roads.

Island residents are being advised to check whether their property may be at risk of flooding and to prepare a simple flood plan if necessary.

Anyone travelling should allow extra time and check road conditions or public transport updates before setting off.

People are also encouraged to be prepared for possible power cuts by having torches, spare batteries and mobile phone power packs ready, and to stay up to date with the latest forecasts as weather warnings can change quickly.
