The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary marked the beginning of its landmark 50th Anniversary

year this past weekend with a spectacular and courageous fundraising event: the Wildheart Wire Walk.

A total of 42 brave participants took on a thrilling 70-metre-long highwire suspended above the Sanctuary’s grounds, in a challenge that tested both nerve and determination.

The event proved an outstanding success, raising over £15,000 in support of the charity’s vital work protecting and caring for rescued animals.

Participants included teams from local businesses and organisations such as Red Funnel,

Nosy Creative Agency, and Visit Isle of Wight, alongside Wildheart’s own team, who raised

an impressive £1,422.

Among the standout participants was 80-year-old Pat Whybrow, whose inspiring effort

captured the spirit of the day and raised over £1,500.

Pat said:

‘I never imagined I’d be doing something like this at 80, but it just goes to show you’re never too old to take on a new challenge - especially for such an important cause!’

Lawrence Bates, CEO of the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, added:

‘The Wire Walk was an extraordinary way to begin our 50th Anniversary year. To see 42 people step so far outside of their comfort zones in support of our animals was genuinely inspiring.

'Raising over £15,000 is a fantastic achievement, but just as important is the sense of community and shared purpose behind it. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, our sponsors, and the Island businesses who made this event possible.

'This is just the start of what promises to be a very special year for Wildheart.’

The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of headline sponsor Careprint UK, alongside invaluable contribution from Island businesses including Meridian3, Stagegear, Red Funnel, Victoria Lodge Hotel, and B. Ashton Scaffolding.

The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary has extended its thanks to every participant, supporter, and volunteer who helped make the day such a memorable success.

This year marks an exciting milestone for the Sanctuary, with more events planned

throughout its 50th Anniversary celebrations.

The next event on the calendar is the new Run Wild event, a 5K family fun run on Sunday, 5th July where the community is invited to get involved once again in support of wildlife.
