Emergency services, including Cowes RNLI and HM Coastguard, responded to an incident off Osborne Bay after a woman suffered a medical emergency aboard a vessel.

An elderly sailor had been struck by his vessel’s boom and entered the water, with his crew unable to recover him.

The public is being invited to Cowes Parade this weekend for a special 999 Emergency Services Day.

Cowes RNLI crews have had a non-stop few days on the Solent, responding to three separate callouts including a grounded boat, stranded teenagers — and even a pet bearded dragon.

Two long-serving Cowes RNLI volunteers, Lou and James Rankin, have married, returning to the lifeboat station where their journey together began 14 years ago.

Around 70 people are employed at the Cowes-based Inshore Lifeboat Centre.

HM Coastguard tasked the Cowes RNLI Atlantic 85 lifeboat Sheena Louise to attend.

Cowes RNLI volunteers faced their busiest day of 2025 so far last Thursday (11 September), launching their lifeboat four times between dawn and late evening.
