A dramatic late-night Coastguard rescue has ended safely after a teenager became stranded high on a cliff near Shanklin.

A large-scale search and rescue operation is underway tonight off the coast of Ryde, following reports of a person in potential distress in the sea.

Emergency services were called to Ryde seafront at lunchtime on Boxing Day following concerns for the welfare of an individual near Ryde Pier.
