Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council has officially become Newport & Carisbrooke Town Council — but it's business as usual for residents.

Just days after reopening, part of Carisbrooke Road in Newport has been shut again following a burst water main.

Parents of pupils at Carisbrooke C of E Primary School were advised to avoid the area at pick-up time while the scene was secured.

Voters in Carisbrooke and Gunville will choose from three candidates at the upcoming Isle of Wight Council elections on May 7.

If approved, the proposed precept would rise from £100.27 to £144.88 a year for Band D households — an increase of 44.78 per cent.

The flooding of at least 56 properties in the Isle of Wight’s county town will be reviewed this evening.
