Young people on the Isle of Wight have taken centre stage at a sustainable fashion show turning recycled materials into bold designs.
The ‘Trash to Trend’ event, organised by New Carnival, was held at Network Ryde on April 18, bringing together 28 participants from schools and youth groups across the Island.
Designers created outfits using repurposed materials, showcasing them on the runway in a themed show inspired by music. The event aimed to highlight sustainability while giving young people a platform to express creativity and build confidence.
Participants were supported with workshops and mentoring, with organisers ensuring the project was free and accessible. The show also featured interviews, performances, and a judging panel made up of local creatives and industry figures.
Judges praised the standard of entries, with awards presented for creativity, sustainability and peer recognition. Winners received prizes including a professional photoshoot and editorial feature.
Organisers thanked volunteers, sponsors and families for their support, saying the event continues to grow each year.
They say the project demonstrates how young people can lead the way in promoting environmentally conscious fashion.
