Yarmouth Man Arrested After Stolen Car Overturns On Middle Road

A 46-year-old man from Yarmouth has been arrested following a crash on Middle Road, in which a stolen Fiat 600 overturned.

Police were called to the road, west of The Blacksmiths, at around 4.30pm yesterday (Monday) after reports that a car had left the carriageway and ended up on its roof.

The driver was reported to have left the scene before emergency services arrived.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has now confirmed that a 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of several offences.

These include drug driving, failing to stop after an accident and theft of a motor vehicle.

He remains in police custody this afternoon.

The Fiat 600 Hybrid involved in the crash belonged to a local woman and is understood to have been stolen on Sunday.
