A large police presence descended on Sandown on Saturday evening (March 7th) after reports of damage to a garden wall sparked concern among residents.

As many as five police vehicles and an ambulance were sent to Avenue Road at around 7.15pm.

Initial reports suggested someone may have been assaulted with a brick, prompting a response from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

However, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has since confirmed that the incident related to damage to a garden wall outside a property.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage.

She was taken into custody and held overnight at Newport Police Station for questioning.
