Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and woman were seriously injured when they were struck by a lorry in Southampton yesterday (Friday), with a Sandown man arrested in connection with the incident.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says the collision happened on Town Quay in Southampton, directly outside Red Funnel’s terminal, at just before 10:46am.
A man in his 60s sustained life-threatening injuries, while a woman, also in her 60s, suffered serious injuries.
Both remain in Southampton General Hospital.
Officers have confirmed that a 69-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.
He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for the force said they would like to thank motorists for their patience while Town Quay was closed for several hours before reopening.
They are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have relevant dash cam footage from the collision or the moments leading up to it, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 44260191343. Reports can also be made online via the Hampshire Constabulary website.
