Police are appealing for information after an attempted theft of metal was reported in Seaview on Saturday (22 November).

The incident was reported shortly before midday, at around 11.44am, after three men were seen trying to remove copper materials from a private property.

A short time later, officers stopped a white Transit van in the Seaview area.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a large quantity of copper along with a generator.

Police are now looking to speak with anyone who may have seen suspicious activity between 10.10am and 12.30pm on Saturday in Seaview, or anyone who thinks copper or lead items may have been taken from their property around that time.

Three men from Southampton — aged 20, 39 and 40 — were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and theft.

They have been bailed until 22 February 2026 while enquiries continue.

The 39-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and has been released under investigation.

Officers are particularly keen to review any relevant footage from doorbell cameras, CCTV, mobile phones or dash cams recorded in the area during the timeframe.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 44250527776, or report online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.

Information can also be shared anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
