Sandown Care Home Rated Good By Watchdog

An Isle of Wight care home has been praised for its kind, respectful and person-centred care.
Magnolia House in Sandown has been rated good overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), as well as across all five assessment areas.
The home, run by Trustmark Care, supports older people living with dementia and physical disabilities.
In its report published on October 19, the CQC said staff understood residents’ routines, preferences and communication needs.
Inspectors said the care helped people feel secure and included, maintain their independence and receive support tailored to their individual needs.
The assessment was the first since the service registered under a new provider and followed concerns raised about person-centred care.
The watchdog also found that risks were managed effectively, safeguarding procedures were in place and accidents and incidents were reviewed to help prevent them happening again.
Staffing levels were found to reflect residents’ needs, with employees receiving appropriate training, supervision and competency assessments.
Magnolia House manager Jackie Bates thanked staff for their commitment and teamwork.
She said:
“We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, but we know that providing excellent care is an ongoing commitment.
“We will continue to learn, improve and strive to make Magnolia House a special place to live and work.”
