Wildheart Animal Sanctuary To Celebrate 50 Years With Anniversary Event

The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary is inviting Islanders to celebrate its 50th anniversary with an evening of family entertainment, live music, animal talks and a spectacular drone show.

The celebration will take place at the sanctuary in Yaverland on Saturday, September 19, from 5pm to 8.30pm.

The event marks five decades since the Corney family took over what was then known as the Isle of Wight Zoo in 1976.

The site has since been transformed into The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, providing a permanent home for rescued animals from around the world.

The anniversary event will include Bubbleology displays from The Lovely Bubbly Show, live acoustic music from Ruby, glitter face painting, performances from Melodic Choir and entertainment from The New Carnival Company.

There will also be special animal talks and feeds, alongside a barbecue, local food stalls and a cocktail bar.

The celebrations will end with a Wildheart-themed drone show from LumaNation, marking the sanctuary's 50-year journey.

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary CEO Lawrence Bates said the milestone would be celebrated with the people who had helped make the sanctuary what it is today.

He said generations of Islanders had visited, supported and volunteered at the sanctuary, while following the stories of the animals that have called it home.

Lawrence Bates said the anniversary was an opportunity to look back at five decades of animal rescue and care, while also looking ahead to the sanctuary's future.

The sanctuary is now home to rescued animals including big cats, bears and primates.

Organisers say the anniversary is also a chance to celebrate the continuing support of the Isle of Wight community.
