Wightlink Transports Almost 10 Million Isle Of Wight Sweetcorn Cobs

Almost 10 million sweetcorn cobs grown on the Isle of Wight have been transported to the mainland by Wightlink this summer.

Around 220 loads have travelled from Barfoots Farm in Arreton to the company’s processing and distribution centre in West Sussex.

The hot, dry summer brought challenges for growers, while the harvest was also brought forward by around two weeks.

Wightlink says it worked closely with Barfoots to move the crop quickly and keep it fresh for supermarkets across Britain.

The seasonal operation follows the start of Wightlink’s summer, when thousands of festival-goers travel to the Island for the Isle of Wight Festival.
