West Wight Sports & Community Centre has announced that its Eco Refill Scheme has raised £500 in its first six months at its new home inside the centre.

The money will be used to fund first aid refresher training for 12 staff members — something the team says is vital for keeping visitors safe and maintaining high standards across the busy community hub.

Centre Manager Clare Griffin said she was “incredibly grateful” for the community’s continued support, stating:

“Every refill helps the environment and directly strengthens the services we can offer. This £500 will make a real difference.”

Gina Maliphant, who helps coordinate the scheme, said it had been “wonderful” to see how warmly Eco Refill had been received:

“Whether someone is topping up one bottle or stocking up for the month, they’re reducing waste and supporting a much-loved local charity.”

The centre has also confirmed it will be taking part in Freshwater’s Late Night Shopping event on Friday 19 December, from 4pm to 8pm. Staff and volunteers will be offering:

  • Eco Refill household and personal care products

  • Sustainable gifts and stocking fillers

  • A festive Eco Refill lucky dip

  • Sports Centre gift vouchers

  • Sports equipment including goggles, hats and nose clips

Eco Refill is open every Tuesday from 10am–12pm and Saturdays from 9.30am–11.30am.

The centre hopes more people will stop by to see how the scheme works — and how their support helps keep the charity thriving.
