The world’s last seagoing paddle steamer, PS Waverley, has begun her 2026 sailing season, marking 80 years since her launch in 1946.
The historic vessel set off from Glasgow this week, kicking off a nationwide programme of cruises which will see her visit destinations across the UK, including the Isle of Wight later this year.
As part of her anniversary season, Waverley is scheduled to sail along the South Coast and around the Isle of Wight between September 3 and September 22, offering Islanders and visitors the chance to experience a rare piece of maritime heritage.
Operated by Waverley Excursions, the ship continues to attract thousands of passengers each year, drawn by the unique experience of travelling aboard a traditional steam-powered vessel.
General Manager Paul Semple said:
“Today marks the beginning of a very special season for Waverley as she returns to service celebrating 80 years since her launch. Eight decades on, passengers can still experience the unique sights, sounds and atmosphere of travelling aboard a real steamship and we are delighted to see Waverley back sailing after a winter refit which saw a £1.5 million investment in the ship.”
On board, passengers can visit the engine room, hear the telegraph ring and watch the paddles turning, alongside enjoying food, drink and period lounge facilities.
Tickets for the 2026 season are now on sale.
