Two major schemes aimed at strengthening the Isle of Wight’s water network are due to be completed several weeks earlier than planned.

Southern Water is currently replacing around 6,000 metres of ageing pipework – some of which dates back to the mid-Victorian era – along Horsebridge Hill and Elenors Grove in Fishbourne.

As part of its wider investment programme, the company is also planning to renew a further 7,000 metres of water mains across the Island during 2026.

The upgrades are designed to reduce the risk of burst pipes, minimise supply interruptions and cut down on leakage.

Southern Water has confirmed that work on Horsebridge Hill is now expected to be finished three weeks ahead of schedule, with completion anticipated on 27 March.

Meanwhile, improvements in Elenors Grove are set to wrap up a week early, on 20 March.

A spokesperson for Southern Water said:

“Our mains replacement projects in Horsebridge Hill and Elenors Grove are progressing well, with both projects set to be completed ahead of schedule.
“Our experienced teams have been working extended hours and at weekends to get these schemes finished as quickly and efficiently as possible, assisted by traffic management that has allowed long, uninterrupted trench runs.
“We know these works have been disruptive to Island residents and thank people for their patience while we complete the final stretch.”
