Walk The Wight 2025 Numbers Revealed As 2026 Date Announced

More than 9,300 people took part in Walk the Wight 2025 with Mountbatten Isle of Wight on Sunday (11 May).

Early fundraising totals show a whopping £410,000 has already been raised overall, with more money due to be added in the coming weeks.

Schools Walk participant numbers rocketed, with 500 more walkers taking on the route

from Freshwater Bay to Alum Bay, having hopped, skipped, walked or jumped the

rest of the distance, in their own time.

The Schools Walk has already raised £46,000 — a full £6,000 more than in 2024, with more money still to be collected.

The day itself was super sunny and it spurred on walkers over four different routes, including the main 26.5 miles, from Bembridge to Alum Bay.

Walkies the Wight?

An estimated 1,000 dogs also set off from the start lines, helping their humans to raise additional funds.

Walkers from Canada and South Africa were among those to take part, while one person even walked the distance on board a cruise ship.

How to pay in your sponsorship

The time has now come to pay in your sponsorship, if you are yet to do so.

You can do this online, via the Mountbatten website, in person and by post.

When does Walk the Wight 2026 take place?

Walk the Wight 2026 will take place on Sunday, 10 May next year, with pre-registration open via this link.

Pre-registered walkers will be offered a 10% discount on the cost of signing up, when formal registration opens.

Mountbatten CEO Nigel Hartley, MBE who has walked eleven times and who this year recorded his best time, said:

“Taking part in Walk the Wight means so much to our charity.

"The day is about making memories, remembering loved-ones and challenging ourselves.

“This is a huge event for the Isle of Wight and for the UK. The critical funds, raised by your incredible efforts, help our experienced nurses, doctors and wider expert staff deliver 24/7 end-of-life care and bereavement services to the Islanders who need us.”

Walk the Wight organiser, Ashleigh Gibbs, said:

“What a day we had! It never ceases to be amazing when so many thousands of people come together to Walk the Wight in support of our charity.

"Whoever you walked with and whatever route you completed, we hope you made amazing memories.

Why not Walk the Test Way?

If a year is too long to wait, you are invited to take on a beautiful walking challenge in

aid of sister hospice, Mountbatten Hampshire.

Walk the Test Way takes place on Sunday, 28 September.

There are routes through the picturesque Test Valley, spanning everything from 25 miles to five miles.

Run by the Rotary Club for Romsey Test, money raised is paid to Mountbatten Hampshire, before 20 per cent is passed to the organisers, to cover costs.

Garden of sunflowers

To mark the 35th anniversary of Walk the Wight, a special exhibition and a garden of sunflowers is planned for later this year.

Draw, sculpt or knit (or pick a craft to suit you) a sunflower and drop it to Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s reception, in Halberry Lane, Newport.
