Vectis RFC Weekly Round-Up: Farewells, Festivals And A Marathon Effort

It’s been another busy and emotional week for Vectis RFC, with end-of-season celebrations, strong performances across the age groups and a standout effort away from the pitch.
The club is still riding high after a memorable Colts fixture, a recent trip to Twickenham to watch the Red Roses, and a special message from England captain Meg Jones.
With excitement around the Women’s Six Nations continuing to build, the club is also encouraging more girls to get involved in rugby on the Island.
Looking ahead, preparations are well underway for a big finish to the season, including the Isle of Wight Festival of Rugby at Medina on May 2 and 3, followed by the club’s awards night at the Medina Theatre on May 7.
Colts: End Of An Era
It’s farewell to a talented group of Under-18s, who signed off with a final touch rugby session before their end-of-season awards.

Back of the Year: Preston
Forward of the Year: Rhys
Tributes have also been paid to departing players, with coaches and teammates thanking them for their contribution to the club.
Special recognition was given to volunteers behind the scenes, whose efforts have helped keep the team running throughout the season.
Under-9s: Building Confidence At Eastleigh
The Under-9s travelled to Eastleigh Rugby Club for a friendly round-robin, focusing on developing tackling and teamwork.
Coaches praised the squad’s communication and growing confidence, with several standout performances across the group.
Under-10s: Family Day Success
More than 50 players and parents took part in a fun-filled family training session, featuring drills, races and games.
The focus was firmly on enjoyment, with plenty of laughs along the way as families joined in the action.
Under-12s: Try-Fest On Home Soil
The Under-12s hosted a festival of rugby against Eastleigh and Portsmouth, with plenty of game time for all involved.
Vectis impressed with strong attacking play and teamwork, with a long list of try scorers highlighting a dominant display.
Under-13s: Fighting Spirit Against Gosport
A tough away trip saw the Under-13s take on a physical Gosport side, but the team showed resilience throughout.
There were standout performances across the pitch, with coaches praising the squad’s determination and defensive effort.
Under-14s: Sportsmanship On Show
The Under-14s hosted Hornets RFCÂ in a mixed-team fixture, ensuring a competitive match despite low numbers.
It proved a valuable experience for players, with strong leadership and impressive individual performances throughout.
Club Spotlight: Marathon Success
Away from rugby, congratulations have been paid to club Events Manager Claire, who completed the Manchester Marathon.
Her achievement has been widely praised across the club, with even more admiration as she now prepares to take on the London Marathon.
Season Finale Ahead
The Isle of Wight Festival of Rugby promises a big weekend of sport and entertainment, with live music, food and plenty of action on the pitch.
The season will then conclude with the club’s awards night, celebrating the achievements of players, coaches and volunteers.
Vectis RFC continues to welcome new players across all age groups, as well as volunteers looking to get involved in the Island’s growing rugby community.
