UPDATED — Warren Farm Praises Firefighters And Community As Headon Warren Wildfire Efforts Ongoing

Warren Farm has paid tribute to firefighters, volunteers and the wider West Wight community after a devastating wildfire tore through Headon Warren.

• Around 60 firefighters remain at the scene

• The fire is affecting a 25-hectare area

• Crews are continuing to use jets and hose reels

• Water is being pumped from the sea at Totland Bay to support firefighting efforts

• The public is still being urged to stay away from Headon Warren

• A wildfire tactical adviser has warned crews could remain on scene for up to three more days

The farm described Thursday as "one heck of a day" as teams worked alongside the National Trust and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to support efforts to contain the blaze, which has destroyed more than 60 acres of precious heathland.

In a statement shared on social media, Warren Farm said:

"We've been working throughout the day to support Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service as they tackle the blaze on Headon Warren."

The location said its staff, alongside National Trust teams, helped by cutting fire breaks with tractors, creating access tracks, transporting equipment, supporting crews on the ground and supplying firefighters with cold drinks and snacks.

Praising the emergency response, the statement added:

"We have been hugely impressed by the professionalism, dedication and rapid response of the fire service teams. A service we can be proud of."

Warren Farm also confirmed all of its animals were safely moved away from the affected area.

"Their welfare has been our top priority throughout the day and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make that possible."

The farm also thanked neighbouring businesses and farmers for rallying around, with special thanks given to Farringford for its support.

"It’s times like these that remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a strong and supportive community," the statement said.

The social media post prompted dozens of supportive messages from Islanders.

One person wrote:

"So glad you've had so much support and help and that everyone is safe and animals are OK.

"I'm sure the whole Island is behind you.

"As fires rage through parts of Europe it makes us all think about how vulnerable our land is. Stay safe and hope all is kept under control."

Another commented:

"We've been thinking of you all, and the animals," while another added: "Can't believe what you have been going through today. Hope you all continue being safe."

Around 60 firefighters remained at Headon Warren overnight, with crews using jets and hose reels to tackle the flames across a 25-hectare area.

Firefighters also began pumping seawater from Totland Bay up the cliffs to support firefighting efforts.

Residents and visitors are continuing to be urged to stay away from the area while the incident remains ongoing.
