Woman Rescued From Cliff Edge On Isle Of Wight

A woman has been rescued from a precarious position on the cliff edge near Salisbury Gardens in Ventnor.

A multi-agency operation was launched shortly after 11.30am on Monday (September 21), after reports that an individual had become trapped between the public space and the revetment.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard, Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary all attended.

Rescuers decided a rope system would provide the safest way to reach the woman and bring her back to safety.

Specialist HM Coastguard equipment was put in place before a rope rescue technician made their way along the cliff edge to reach her.

The woman was secured to a winch and brought back to safety alongside the rescuer.

She was then handed over to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service for assessment.

The woman is not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

Access paths leading towards the area were cordoned off while the rescue operation was underway.

Emergency services have now left the scene.
