Three Arrested After Machete Report In Ryde

Three people have been arrested after police received a report of a man seen carrying a machete in Ryde.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said officers were called at around 9.53pm on Sunday (September 20) following reports of the man being seen in Spencer Road.

Police said he was then seen getting into a vehicle with another man before they left the area.

Armed officers were deployed and subsequently located the vehicle.

Two men were found nearby and arrested in connection with the incident.

A 22-year-old man from Ventnor was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs.

A 22-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence, possession of a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place, and being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.

Police also carried out searches in connection with the incident.

A 51-year-old woman from Ryde was subsequently arrested on suspicion of acquiring, using or possessing criminal property and being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs.

All three remain in police custody.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said enquiries are continuing in the local area.

The arrests are allegations and no charges have been confirmed at this stage.
