Smoke from a major New Forest heath fire is drifting across the Isle of Wight this morning — Islanders are being urged to keep windows and doors closed.

The huge Headon Warren wildfire has finally been extinguished after a five-day operation involving firefighters from across the south of England.

A helicopter has joined firefighters battling the huge Headon Warren wildfire as crews continue working to stop the blaze spreading.

The wildfire at Headon Warren has grown dramatically throughout the day, with more than 65 firefighters now tackling the blaze as smoke spreads across the Solent.
