Travel Update: Roadworks, Closures And Cowes Week Traffic Affecting Isle Of Wight Drivers

Motorists are being urged to plan ahead today (Wednesday), with a number of road closures, diversions and temporary traffic management measures in place across the Isle of Wight.

Cowes Week

Drivers travelling to and from Cowes are being advised to leave extra time for their journeys as Cowes Week continues.

The Cowes to East Cowes Floating Bridge is operating extended hours on a special timetable throughout the regatta.

Ryde

A temporary one-way system remains in place on Monkton Street following last week's collision, which damaged traffic lights.

Southern Vectis buses are diverting via Park Road and Bennett Street, with bus stops on Monkton Street currently out of service.

Meanwhile, St John's Road remains closed after concerns over a carriageway depression.

Bus routes 2, 3 and 8 are being diverted via East Hill Road, Dover Street and Park Road, with stops at Lower Highland Road, St John's Road Station and Bennett Street not being served.

Newport

Medina Avenue is closed, with Southern Vectis Route 38 diverting via Whitepit Lane, St John's Road, Medina Avenue and Church Litten to reach Newport Bus Station.

Ventnor

Drivers are continuing to face disruption around Ventnor.

The Graben (Newport Road) remains closed due to Southern Water works, while Shanklin Road is also shut for SGN gas mains repairs.

The closure on Shanklin Road has now been extended until Friday (7 August) after engineers discovered more pipework needed replacing than originally expected.

East Cowes

Long-term gas works are continuing on Adelaide Grove, with a second phase of works due to begin on Victoria Grove this month.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation as part of the project, which is expected to continue until December.

Other Closures

• Merstone Lane remains closed until 7 August while Island Roads carries out works.

• School Lane, Carisbrooke, is also affected by roadworks this morning.

Shanklin Carnival

Road closures will be introduced in Shanklin this evening for the town's annual carnival.

The procession gets underway at 7pm, travelling from Popham Road through the Old Village before heading along the High Street, Regent Street and Queens Road, finishing at Chine Avenue.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area during the event if possible.

Public Transport

Island Line services are running normally this morning.

Wightlink, Red Funnel and Hovertravel are also operating their scheduled services.
