Council Chairman Highlights Importance Of Cross-Solent Links

The chairman of the Isle of Wight Council has highlighted the importance of maintaining links with neighbouring authorities following a series of civic engagements across the Solent.

Councillor Ian Dore joined civic leaders at events in Southampton and Portsmouth this week aimed at strengthening regional relationships and sharing ideas.

His visit to Southampton included a tour of the National Oceanography Centre and research vessel RRS James Cook, with discussions covering marine science, technology and future maritime career opportunities.

Councillor Dore also visited Mayflower Studios and the Mayflower Theatre before attending the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth's annual civic dinner on Wednesday.

He said relationships with Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire and the wider region could support collaboration in areas including skills, employment, culture and economic opportunities.

Councillor Dore said part of his role as chairman was to ensure the Isle of Wight remained represented in regional discussions while developing relationships that could benefit the Island.
