Motorists are facing further disruption on the Isle of Wight this morning (Tuesday), with severe congestion reported between the Hare and Hounds junction and Merstone.
A driver has told Isle of Wight Radio that traffic heading up towards Merstone — travelling from the Hare and Hounds in the direction of Arreton — is moving at "barely 2 miles per hour".
The caller says they have been stuck at the Hare and Hounds junction for around 15 minutes, with “massive tailbacks” building in multiple directions.
The congestion is said to be affecting traffic coming down from the Downs towards the Hare and Hounds as well.
The delays come amid ongoing disruption across the Island’s road network this morning, with drivers already experiencing significant hold-ups around Newport following an earlier incident on a key diversion route.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes where possible.
UPDATE 8.26am:
The problem is reported to have been caused by a broken down van blocking traffic.
