Voters in Newport West will have three candidates to choose from at the upcoming Isle of Wight Council elections on May 7.

Standing in the ward are Frank Brown (Reform UK), Chris Mace (Green Party) and incumbent councillor Raymond Redrup (Local Conservatives).

The Local Democracy Reporting Service invited all candidates to submit a 100-word statement ahead of polling day.

Reform UK candidate Frank Brown did not provide a statement.

Green Party candidate Chris Mace is a retired bus driver who lives on the Island with his wife.

He says Newport West is a popular area for families but highlights concerns around road safety, speeding and potential loss of green spaces due to further development.

His priorities include tackling ferry costs and improving access to NHS dental services.

Conservative councillor Raymond Redrup, who currently represents the ward, says he has lived on the Island for 30 years and previously ran a local bakery business.

He has also volunteered with the Samaritans and worked with organisations including Cowes Harbour Commission.

He says his experience has helped him serve effectively over the past five years and he is ready to continue representing residents.

The election will take place on May 7.
