It wasn't just festival-goers creating a buzz at Ryde Pier Head this weekend.

A swarm of around 500 bees temporarily descended on Wightlink's ferry terminal on Sunday, attracting the attention of passengers and staff at the busy transport hub.

The insects settled at the end of the pier, prompting Wightlink to call in local bee specialist Laura Saddler, better known to many Islanders as the "Bee Lady".

Laura safely collected the swarm before relocating the bees to nearby hives, allowing them to continue thriving in a more suitable environment.

Martin Gulliver, Wightlink's Operations Manager, thanked Laura for her swift response.

He said:

"We are really grateful to Laura for making sure the bees were removed safely so they can now enjoy life in a far more suitable location."

The operation was completed without incident and ferry services continued to run as normal throughout.

While the unexpected visitors caused quite a stir, some Islanders may have wondered whether it was a tribute to one of the Isle of Wight's most famous musical exports (below).

The bees (the insects) have now been successfully rehomed, bringing an end to an unusual visitor attraction at one of the Island's busiest transport gateways.
