Motorists and public transport users are being urged to take extra care today as an extreme heat warning remains in place across the Isle of Wight.

A Red Heat Health Alert has been issued for the South East from tomorrow, while an Amber Extreme Heat Warning is already active.

Temperatures are expected to climb significantly over the coming days, with travellers advised to plan ahead, carry water and allow extra time for journeys.

Meanwhile, Leeson Road between Ventnor and Bonchurch is closed this morning.

The closure is linked to BT engineering works scheduled to take place this week.

According to One.Network, the road is expected to be affected between today, Monday 23rd June, and Thursday 25th June, although the exact duration of the closure has not been confirmed.

The situation follows weeks of confusion for residents and motorists after conflicting information appeared on roadwork signs and traffic listings.

Elsewhere, Watergate Road on the outskirts of Newport remains closed for ongoing Southern Gas Networks repair works. That closure is expected to stay in place until 10th July.

For those travelling by sea, services are currently operating normally.

Wightlink, Red Funnel and Hovertravel are all running to timetable this morning, while the Cowes to East Cowes floating bridge is also in service as usual.
