Interactive darts, shuffleboard, mini golf and karaoke pods could soon replace a once-popular Isle of Wight nightclub under plans to transform part of Ryde's Esplanade Pavilion.

Isle of Wight Bowling has submitted proposals to change the use of the former Balcony nightclub, located on the first floor of the historic pavilion, as part of a wider effort to modernise the venue and attract more visitors.

The plans would see the nightclub replaced with a range of family-focused attractions, including shuffleboard, interactive darts, karaoke pods, American pool tables and both indoor and outdoor mini golf.

If approved, the first floor would feature a nine-hole indoor mini golf course, alongside a further 12 holes outside on the balcony area overlooking Ryde seafront.

The ground floor's existing tenpin bowling alley and laser quest facilities would remain in place, while food, drink and live entertainment would be offered across both levels of the building.

The proposals also include a number of physical improvements, including a new staircase linking the ground and first floors, improved lift access and the installation of solar panels on part of the first-floor balcony.

Planning documents submitted on behalf of Isle of Wight Bowling say the former nightclub is no longer commercially viable.

The applicant says falling ticket sales and rising operating costs have created a difficult trading environment, prompting a move towards a more family-friendly entertainment offering that better reflects current customer demand.

The Edwardian pavilion has long been a prominent feature of Ryde's seafront and currently houses the bowling alley, café and bar alongside the former nightclub space.

A public consultation on the plans is now underway and runs until 24th July. A decision from Isle of Wight Council is expected by 17th August.
