A proposed McDonald’s drive-thru restaurant in Cowes has prompted a wave of public response, with dozens of letters submitted to the Isle of Wight Council.

So far, 40 comments supporting the plans have been received for the proposed restaurant on Three Gates Road, which would include car parking, landscaping and customer order displays.

According to planning documents, the development represents a multi-million-pound investment and could create more than 120 full and part-time jobs, with recruitment expected to focus on local residents.

Four objections have also been submitted, raising concerns about traffic, noise and light pollution, rubbish, odours, unhealthy food availability and the site’s proximity to nearby

schools.

Supporters say the restaurant would boost employment, reduce the need to travel to Newport, and provide an affordable and convenient option for families and drivers in the Cowes area.

The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on the application runs until January 23, with a decision expected on February 13.
