Freshwater Parish Council has launched a creative fundraising initiative to support the proposed Freshwater Skatepark and Pump Track on the Isle of Wight.

Local artists have transformed blank skateboard decks into unique works of art, which will be auctioned online to raise funds for the project.

The initiative celebrates the Island’s skateboarding heritage while bringing together art, community participation, and youth sport.

Historic skate locations such as Shide Ramp and Golden Hill Skatepark will be highlighted at a public exhibition alongside the artworks.

The completed decks will be displayed during an opening evening at Newport and Carisbrooke Community Centre on 2 April from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The online auction will run from 1 April to 9 May 2026, giving the public the chance to view and bid on the artworks here: Freshwater Skatepark Deck Auction

The project has received a £20,000 boost from The National Lottery Community Fund, bringing the skatepark closer to its funding goal.

Freshwater Parish Council aims to start construction within the next 12 months, creating a lasting space for skaters, riders, young people, families, and the wider community.

Freshwater Parish Council Clerk Kirsty Gibson said:

"This project is about more than just fundraising – it’s about bringing the community together, celebrating the Island’s skateboarding heritage, and creating a facility that everyone can enjoy.

"With the support of local artists and The National Lottery, we are closer than ever to making the skatepark a reality."

Among the featured artists are Jacob Dixon, whose deck Flux reflects his lifelong connection to the Island’s skate culture, and Paul Windridge, whose triptych Oh Hela translates themes of memory, emotion, and the natural world into a visually immersive piece.
