Shanklin Voluntary Youth and Community Centre has received a £1,000 boost to support its growing range of activities.
The cheque, awarded by Sported, was presented to the centre’s newest — and youngest — member, six-month-old Lola Bridget Biddlecombe, daughter of centre leader Mark Biddlecombe, alongside members of the Thursday Club.
The funding will help develop table tennis sessions and youth football in partnership with Shanklin FC.
Known locally as TC’s, the centre is also preparing for Red Nose Day with a special disco and activity evening.
Volunteers are using the event to raise additional funds to improve the disco and games areas.
The improvements come in response to the needs of more than 500 members who take part in a wide range of activities, including youth clubs, table tennis, a community choir, exercise classes, drama and martial arts.
Mark Biddlecombe says the centre continues to evolve to support the local community:
“SVYCC, with our partners at Shanklin FC, continues to adapt and respond to the changing needs of our members, always striving to provide a safe, welcoming and affordable multi-purpose centre for the youth and community of Shanklin, and the wider Bay."
