Six candidates are standing in the Ryde South East ward in the Isle of Wight Council elections on May 7.

The contest includes Andy Clayton (Conservative), Richard Collins (Green Party), Stephen Double (Labour), Jessica Higgins (Island Independent Network), Jen Hughes (Liberal Democrat) and Chris Way (Reform UK).

Andy Clayton says he was born in Ryde and has experience as a former councillor, adding he is active in local community and conservation groups.

Richard Collins, a software engineer, says he moved to the Island in 1999 and has been welcomed into the community, regularly walking his rescue dog in the area.

Labour candidate Stephen Double, who has been recognised for his community work in Ryde, says his priority is building a more inclusive and vibrant local community.

Jessica Higgins says she wants to focus on safer streets, protecting services and supporting families and local businesses.

Liberal Democrat candidate Jen Hughes, a current Ryde town councillor, says she has worked on scrutiny and local campaigns, including efforts to save Oakfield Primary School.

Reform UK candidate Chris Way says he is a lifelong Ryde resident and wants to reduce waste and prioritise local decision-making.
