Reform UK has comfortably won the Central Rural by-election race – its second seat on the Isle of Wight Council.

Caroline Gladwin received 410 votes, with Simon Richards (Conservatives) on 220 and Julia Laursen (Green Party) just behind on 219.

She replaces Suzie Ellis who previously represented the ward as a Conservative councillor.

She told the press the “old parties” had failed and voters were “looking for something new”.

“We’re going to be looking out for rural residents and farmers as opposed to the other parties…I will be doing all I can for the residents,” Ms Gladwin said.
“We’ll be bringing something new to County Hall and reform to County Hall.”

The full list of results is as follows:

Bob Blezzard (Liberal Democrats): 146

Caroline Gladwin (Reform UK): 410

Simon Haytack (Labour): 34

Julia Laursen (Green Party): 219

Simon Richards (Conservative): 220
