Police Investigate After Driver Leaves Scene Of Newport Crash

Police are investigating after the driver of a BMW left the scene of a crash on the outskirts of Newport.

Emergency services were called to the area near Butterfly World on Saturday evening after a silver BMW 1 Series left the road.

The vehicle crossed through shrubbery and a hedge before coming to rest in undergrowth some distance from the carriageway.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary later confirmed officers were called following a single-vehicle collision on Staplers Road shortly after 9pm on Saturday.

Police say the driver had left the area before officers arrived.

The road was temporarily closed while the vehicle was recovered, but has since reopened.

Enquiries into the incident are continuing.
