Rugby Returns to Watcombe This Friday As Ventnor Host Hurricanes

Ventnor Rugby Club will welcome the Sandown & Shanklin Hurricanes to Watcombe on Friday evening (22 August) for a pre-season friendly. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:45, with the club bar opening from 17:30.

The match follows a promising pre-season outing for Ventnor away at Romsey on Saturday 9th August, where the Isle of Wight side were defeated 36–12 by a team in a league above them.

The squad featured debut appearances from Jordan Allen and Noah McKinney, while tries from Max Wheeler and Joe Coghlan helped Ventnor draw the second half 12–12, highlighting a strong finish to the game.

Earlier this month, Ventnor Carnival proved a popular event, with crowds enjoying the lineouts and a distribution of mini rugby balls provided by Howden Insurance.

The club is also calling for volunteers to help with post-match meals and bar duties throughout the season.

Post-match meal volunteers would be expected to cook for around 40 people, either at home or at the club, with VRFC reimbursing ingredient costs.

The aim is for volunteers to prepare no more than one meal during the season.

Anyone interested in helping with the bar will receive guidance from Bradders and Molly, who oversee match-day operations.
