Work to improve pedestrian safety along a busy stretch of road at Hale Common is set to get underway next month.
The scheme will see new footways installed along the A3056, linking the junction with Watery Lane to a bus stop near Isle of Wight Tomatoes.
The improvements aim to provide a safer walking route for pedestrians accessing bus stops and nearby attractions, alongside new crossing points to help people cross the road more easily.
The project — part of a Department for Transport-funded Safer Roads initiative — will be delivered by Island Roads in two phases.
The first phase involves removing an existing traffic island on the A3056 and replacing it with a pedestrian refuge.
To allow this work to take place safely, a section of the road will be closed for three days between 13th and 15th May, from 09:30 to 15:30.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation outside of those hours.
During the closure, drivers will be diverted via Arreton, Blackwater, Rookley, Godshill, Whitely Bank and Apse Heath.
Properties to the north-west of the works — including The Fighting Cocks and Isle of Wight Tomatoes — will only be accessible via Arreton, while access to Watery Lane and nearby businesses will be via Apse Heath.
The second phase, running from 1st June to 24th July, will see the construction of the new footways under temporary traffic lights.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout, and traffic management will be lifted for the Isle of Wight Festival weekend.
Bus services will continue to operate where possible, with temporary stops provided if needed.
Residents are also being advised to leave waste out for collection by 07:00 on their usual day or contact their provider for alternative arrangements.
The works form part of wider measures along the A3056 aimed at improving safety, although dates may change depending on weather or site conditions.
