A team of colleagues from Utilita's Southampton-based Headquarters travelled to the Isle of Wight to volunteer at The Pyle Street Pantry, building on the regular charity support delivered by Newport’s Energy Hub.

Utilita, the UK’s leading Smart PAYG energy supplier, provides all its employees with a paid day each year to volunteer, either for a cause they care about or to help combat fuel and food poverty.

George Walters, Sasha Dixon, Wayne Emery, Karl Gowing, Tony Kerton, and Tom Hickey all teamed up to use their volunteering day to roll up their sleeves and help prepare and cook a free evening meal for the local community.

Whilst on the island, the team also supported the set-up of the popular Lego Club, which welcomes families from across the island. Their efforts are part of an ongoing commitment to support local initiatives that tackle food and fuel poverty.

Sasha Dixon, Utilita’s Partnership Manager, says:

“As part of our continued support to local charities and community groups, we were delighted to be able to make a £3,000 donation from the Utilita Giving Energy Fund.
"The cheque was presented by our Chief Home Services Officer, George Walters, to Reverend Mark Evans during the visit.
"This funding will help The Pyle Street Pantry pay for its energy and continue its vital work supporting those in need.”

In addition to regularly volunteering at the local pantry, the Newport Energy Hub team helped raise awareness of fuel and food poverty at the recent Royal County Show, using the energy supplier’s converted Routemaster double-decker bus to engage with the public and promote the cause.

The Utility Energy Hub is open from Monday to Saturday at 121 High Street, Newport.
