The third Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival gets underway this Saturday (27th June), bringing more than 100 events to communities across the Island over nine days.

Recently named one of the UK's top ten nature festivals by The Guardian, the grassroots celebration showcases the Isle of Wight's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status through a packed programme of free and low-cost activities designed to connect people with nature, culture and each other.

Organised by local groups, charities, businesses and individuals, the festival offers a diverse range of experiences, including guided walks, talks, workshops, performances, yoga sessions, art activities and open days.

Highlights include a Wild Fermentation workshop at Nunwell and Wild Knuckle Brewery, where participants can learn how to grow their own beer, a live performance exploring the music of plants at Ventnor Botanic Garden, and Ebb and Flow, which transforms the rhythms of the River Medina into dance.

Creative opportunities include jewellery making, weaving, nature-inspired painting and poetry workshops, while those interested in environmental issues can join a Nature Fresk workshop to explore the challenges facing biodiversity.

Young people can create their own zine with Isle of Wight illustrator Tommy Brentnall, take part in wildlife identification and citizen science activities in the Calbourne Valley, or enjoy an interactive street game at The Port in Newport.

Families with younger children can also get involved through activities at Wildheart Animal Sanctuary's FOCAS Festival, local library events and more.

The festival also offers opportunities to hear from experts including marine biologist and underwater photographer Theo Vickers, woodland specialist Matt Huxley, archaeologist Kelly Wetherick and Springwatch favourite Lucy Lapwing.

Visitors looking for a more reflective experience can enjoy Ocean Flow Yoga overlooking Compton Bay, immersive nature listening sessions, mindfulness workshops and creative activities designed to deepen connections with the natural world.

Festival organisers say the event offers a unique chance to discover a different side of the Isle of Wight, learn more about its internationally recognised Biosphere status and meet others who share an interest in nature, heritage and the environment.
