Police Investigate Newport Assault After Man Found Injured In Street

Police have launched an investigation after a man in his 50s was discovered with head injuries in a residential area of Newport during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to Melbourne Street, just off Trafalgar Road, shortly after midnight following reports that a man had been assaulted.
Emergency services attended the scene, where a police cordon was established as officers began their initial enquiries.
The area remained sealed off overnight while investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The injured man was taken to St Mary's Hospital for treatment. Police have since confirmed that he has been discharged and is now recovering at home.
Detectives are continuing to investigate and are working to establish exactly what happened.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
