Person Airlifted To Hospital From Cargo Ship Off Isle Of Wight

A person has been airlifted to hospital after becoming seriously unwell on board a cargo ship off the Isle of Wight.

HM Coastguard was alerted at around 2.15pm on Saturday after receiving reports of a medical emergency on the vessel.

Bembridge RNLI's all-weather lifeboat was launched to assist, along with an HM Coastguard helicopter which travelled to the Island from St Athan in Wales.

The casualty was winched from the cargo ship and taken aboard the helicopter.

They were then flown to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the medical emergency have not been disclosed.
