Following the huge success of last year’s event, Newport Heritage Day is set to return on Saturday 6 September 2025 – with the whole town once again getting involved.

Shops across Newport will be uncovering the history of their premises and creating themed window displays, while a host of venues will open their doors with special exhibitions and activities.

Highlights include:

  • 64 High Street – exhibition on the history of Island steam railways

  • Independent Arts – Classic Games exhibition with the chance to play chess

  • Museum of Island History – open for free entry

  • Newport Quay – Classic Motor Show with hundreds of vehicles on display

  • Newport Minster – guided tours, family talks, activities and an exhibition on Birth, Marriage and Death in partnership with Brave Island

  • Time Jump Histories – step back into the trenches

  • Quarr Abbey – showcasing traditional bookbinding work

  • IWC Archaeology Team – displaying key finds from Newport’s past

Newport Minster’s Hannah Griffiths said:

“After the phenomenal success of Newport Heritage Day last year we are really looking forward to giving people another chance to find out more about their local history.”

Brave Island exhibition coordinator Jodie Witton added:

“Come and learn about the history of birth, marriage and death and the role of the Minster in these important life milestones.
"Hear the stories of local people’s experiences and see their photos.”

The day is organised by Newport Cultural Consortium with support from Newport Minster, Newport Business Association, Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council and the Shaping Newport Partnership.
